Tesla Battery Recycling

by Derek Kubik on June 28, 2016

With technological advancements and environmental concerns in mind, electric vehicles are becoming more prevalent and their prevalence will only continue to increase. To add to that, Dutch and Norwegian governments have been discussing only permitting electric car sales and banning gas powered car sales by 2025.

So with the  future looking electric, the thought of all those electric car battery packs may not seem very environmentally friendly. However, it might not be as bad as you think; according to Tesla a majority of their batteries will be recycled.

The Tesla Model S electric sedan has had a great first quarter of sales in Canada. 325 Canadians purchased the Model S during the month of March alone, which is now the all-time sales record for plug-in vehicle sales for a single month. March sales made up for a relatively sluggish first two months of the year, where the Model S sold 47 and 88 units in January and February. Altogether, this gives the Model S 460 total units sold in Q1 of 2016, which slightly outpaces the second place Chevy Volt which has 442 units sold in the same time period.

Mileage Mix-up

by Derek Kubik on May 26, 2016

Ever since the Volkswagen emissions scandal there has been increased scrutiny of vehicle mileage and emissions. So whether it’s by mistake or intentional, it’s no surprise to hear that more vehicle manufacturers are having mileage woes.

Recently GM and Mitsubishi have joined VW in misrepresented mileage figures, however their backstories to their current position are quite different. With the former apparently being a mistake and the latter being a low tech means of cheating tests.

IIHS Crash Test Results

Earlier this month, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) introduced a new crash test that would test the safety of 10 different variants of pickup trucks belonging to major auto dealers Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Ram, and Toyota. The test works by replicating a situation where the vehicle runs off the road and the front end hits a tree or a pole at 65 km/h. The results of this test could be quite influential considering the intense competition that currently exists in the truck segment. So far in 2016, Ford has sold over 186,000 F-150s. In comparison, Chevy has sold 128,965 Silverados in the first quarter of the year and Fiat-Chrysler has sold 113,367 Rams.
