Leather vs. Cloth Seats

When it comes to your next vehicle, there are many choices you have to make. With endless amounts of reviews out there comparing certain vehicles, certain engines, just about everything to do with the automotive industry you can really do your homework. One that that I didn’t find a lot of information on is the old battle between leather or cloth seats. That got me thinking, this is a decision which is fairly important. The seats you choose, you have to sit on for as long as you own the car. I don’t know about you, but my toosh matters quite a bit to me. So here is some information to help you make your toosh happy.

There are benefits and downfalls to each material. Lets start with leather first. This animal hide is soft and supple. It offers more comfort for the lower half of your body. Also, since leather is more expensive, it often shows a sign of luxury and prestige. With its added expense, means there is more value in your vehicle for when you decide to sell. Now the negative aspects to leather. It requires more maintenance, if needs to be regularly cleaned and a leather conditioner should be put on it. In extreme weather if it is really hot outside it will feel like your legs and butt are being burned off. Same goes for cold, that is feels like you are sitting on a popsicle.

Let’s move onto the benefits of cloth. Cloth seats are more affordable. With cloth you won’t get the extreme hot and cold depending on what the weather is doing outside. You also won’t slip around on these seats. There are some downsides to cloth as well. The luxury aspect of cloth is a lot less than leather. Cloth tends to get dirty much easier and does absorb materials.

You need to take into consideration which features you want and which ones you don’t want when it comes to the materials of the seats in your car. Me personally, I can’t handle the extreme heats leather can produce, with that said heated and cooled seats are now all the rave in newer vehicles.
