The Top Trucks of Canada

by Admin on March 29, 2014

Based on two sources, Insurance Hotline and Good Car Bar Car there are five trucks that are top sellers in Canada: the Ford F-Series, Ram, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado and Toyota Tundra. Each of these trucks can handle the heavy workload of Canadians, each with its own personality and unique features. All of the above are in constant battle with each other to win the top awards in the industry.

For over six decades the Ford F-Series has produced a lineup of impressive trucks which have been sold all over North America. From this lineup are Motor Trend Truck of the Year® winners, “Best Overall Half-Ton Pick-up” from, plus “Top Safety Pick” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for its standard safety technology: Safety Canopy side curtain air bags and AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control.

The Ram lineup will have your jaw dropping too. Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend Truck of the Year® five times; the second-generation Ram won the award in 1994, the third-generation Ram Heavy Duty won the award in 2003, the fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty won in 2010 and the current Ram 1500 won in 2013 and 2014. Ram is the only manufacturer to ever receive back-to-back wins for Motor Trend Truck of the Year®. Various models in this lineup have received “Top Safety Pick” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Driving the competition is the GMC Sierra, with many industry awards under its belt. It has won Motor Trend Truck of the Year® in 1999 and 2007, while the Heavy Duty model has gone on to win Motor Trend Truck of the Year® in 2001 and 2011. The GMC Sierra was awarded Car and Driver magazine’s Best Pickup Truck back to back in 2001, 2002 and 2003. Its long list of industry accolades continues with North American Truck of the Year, International Truck of the Year and Truckin’ Magazine’s Truck of the Year in 2007.

When it comes to the competition, the Toyota Tundra doesn’t mess around. Canadian Driver has crowned the Tundra as Truck King, selecting it as the best 1/2-ton pickup with an engine displacing greater than 5.0-liters, and again as best 1/2-ton with an engine displacing less than 5.0-liters. Trailer Boats awarded the Tundra with its 2007 Tow Vehicle of the Year award after completing nearly two weeks of testing. Truckin’ Magazine awards the Tundra Crew Max with its 2008 Truck of the Year award. Motor Trend declared the Tundra its 2008 Truck of the Year®. Other competitors tested were the Chevrolet Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD, and Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450. While the Chevrolet Silverado, Motor Trend’s 2007 Truck of the Year® was not in the competition, it was defeated by the Tundra in an earlier three round comparison as noted below. However, Motor Trend Truck of the Year® ranked the Silverado and Sierra ahead in a later comparison test.

The long line of awards is evidence that these trucks amp up the industry competition, going head to head with the latest design and technology features. With new advancements happening regularly, truck rankings are always changing. Make sure to thoroughly research the truck you’re interested in to make sure it best suits your needs.
